And the weakness of university administrators has every bit as much to do with this as the specific ideological hobbyhorses of the GOP, which is why it is a problem not only in the US but wherever universities are run as businesses by wannabe CEOs.

Academic freedom isn't the chance or momentary absence of specific political directives on what or how to teach academic subjects, any more than rule of law is everybody choosing to behave. It's the principle that such directives can't be issued and won't be acted upon by academic administrators.

If you've made it to the end of this thread, my only request is that you share it with others. So many people suffered because of this denialism, and it frankly burns me up that this dark legacy has been made to disappear without a fuss.
