Either you understand that there is an organized campaign to push trans people out of public life with the explicit end goal of "morally mandating us out of existence" that is backed by some of the wealthiest individuals to have ever lived, or you're simply not equipped to grasp what's happening.

VOTE FOR THE CANDIDATE THAT WILL WORK TO EARN YOUR VOTE

Tomorrow is election day, TN-7, and I'm humbly asking for your vote. I promise to be accessible and only beholden to the voters of the district, never donors or special interests. Polls open at 7 AM & close at 7 PM. Let's go out and win this!

She’d been in the U.S. since she was seven.

They grabbed at the airport on her way to surprise her family for thanksgiving.

They put her in shackles. Her ankles, her arms, and her waist.

I get so enraged about bigotry disguised as academic work that I sometimes forget the whole vile point is a bad faith campaign to destroy trans people. OU admin saw the hate in action and jumped right to help ensure trans people can't safely teach in universities.
The Twitter account for the Turning Point USA chapter at OU seems to have only started posting last week with an anti-trans pressure campaign. And then, oh gosh, what are the odds that they just happened to immediately find someone who claims to have been discriminated against by a trans person?

And the weakness of university administrators has every bit as much to do with this as the specific ideological hobbyhorses of the GOP, which is why it is a problem not only in the US but wherever universities are run as businesses by wannabe CEOs.

Academic freedom isn't the chance or momentary absence of specific political directives on what or how to teach academic subjects, any more than rule of law is everybody choosing to behave. It's the principle that such directives can't be issued and won't be acted upon by academic administrators.

Once again: this is not something that "threatens" academic freedom, though it will doubtless be reported that way. This is only possible where academic freedom has already ended.
TX Tech has a flow chat for guidance on what can be taught in the university system. Two things:
1. Very little content seems to be permitted. This is partisan control of the curriculum.
2. I would not enjoy teaching under these conditions, but I really would not want to be a Chair or Dean.

OU is participating in attacking a trans instructor and grad student for doing their job.
OU is in the wrong if it is treating this situation differently than it would any other grade appeal. Does OU usually suspend instructors at the outset of a grade appeal? Does it usually make statements to the media about the actions they've taken against the instructor?

Does OU want to demonstrate to students that they can get special treatment as long as they can trigger (here, right-wing) outrage? Because...there are some foreseeable consequences there, none of them good for OU.
