A sparrow and a bull-headed shrike in the same pose. Looking at them this way, the shrike’s eyes seem quite large for its body.😶

I didn’t know what kind of fruit it was eating, but after checking I found it seems to be from the muku tree (Aphananthe aspera). Since this tree grows in warmer regions, I never saw it in Hokkaido.

In Japanese, spring-like weather in late autumn is called koharu-biyori. It resembles the American idea of an Indian summer.

Here is the Grey-headed Woodpecker from Hokkaidō.

A Japanese Green Woodpecker was rapidly flicking its tongue in and out as it fed.😋 Seen from behind, unlike the Grey-headed Woodpecker of Hokkaidō, the red on its head extends down to the nape.

The water pipit is said to be related to wagtails. Looking at it like this, they do seem alike!🐧🐧

I had never seen a water pipit in Hokkaidō, but here in the Kanto region it seems to be a common winter bird.🪶

Rather than the vivid greens of spring or summer, the Japanese white-eye wears a green like the slightly faded leaves of this season.🪶

In a flock of Eurasian Wigeons, I noticed an individual with green around its eyes—could it be a hybrid with an American Wigeon?🦆

A Eurasian Tree Sparrow on the power line. Somehow, lately I’ve been taking a lot of shots from directly below.🪶

I wonder why kingfishers are always bobbing their heads up and down. I’ve seen the explanation that it helps them see better into the water, but they do it even when they’re not looking at the water.🤔

The praying mantis I met last weekend. When I brought the camera closer, it threatened me, but its movements had already become quite sluggish. It is about the season when frost is likely to fall.
