So in Steve-news, I handed in my corrected PhD at the weekend, and on Monday got the news that the corrections had been accepted and I'm Dr Steve. So that's nice.

Ten f'king years. Been napping a lot this week.

there's only one use of AI that I'd REALLY like to see...

"you appear to not being using any of the AI features on your phone. Would you like to remove them all and any associated data that we've scraped without your permission?"

that's it. AI to detect AI refusniks which then deletes itself.

Tax the super rich, you fucking ghouls. It's that simple.

Start acting like the party of Labour.

So, from what I understand of these budget commitments, there's literally NOTHING that eases the financial crisis that literally everyone on a normal wage is feeling right now. Freezing personal tax levels is a ginormous step backwards when wages have already stagnated while costs have sky rocketed.
Oh fuck I used to be a political reporter, can't help myself. Here's the big tax policies from the leaked budget.

in other news, I'm revisiting this live improv album I recorded with @danielberkman.bsky.social about 13 years ago for the first time in a while. Playing with Daniel is a completely unique experience. Just endlessly satisfying exploration :)

so, I got a DMCA notice from X about my account. I click the link (after checking it's not a phishing scam...) and it opens to a bunch of Ts & Cs in French...? WTF?

Man, I miss Twitter. Early Twitter especially, but even just plain ole' pre-fascism Twitter would do now...

it's not really had much of a fanfare, as I've literally no idea how 'media' works these days, but my latest album Amsterdam feels like a bit of a high water mark in my recent output. Give it a listen if that sounds appealing :)

was going to buy a new phone a few weeks back (replacing decrepit phone from 5 years ago). 15 y/o son says 'wait for the Black Friday deals to kick in'. Dude just saved me £80 :)

@alexskolnick.bsky.social dude, listening to The Breakdown now (about to buy the album on Bandcamp :) ) just beautiful playing... it's most interesting to hear someone with a such a similar list of influences to me play a solo full of harmonic ideas that feel so familiar. A voice from 'home' :)

in a lesson that touched on looping strategies the other day I played this amazing performance by John Lester - such a great song & such a beautiful & bizarre half fretted/half fretless instrument built by my friend Rick Turner. Loved playing midwife in that project!

oof, the Nova Twins Tiny Desk gig is properly amazing - some seriously top-drawer pedal abuse going on in Georgia's bass playing. For the nerds, her use of the Source Audio Hot Hand is just brlliant :) I've got a new bass hero.

Shooting Rubber Bands At The Stars by Edie Brickell & The New Bohemians is still perfect in every way.
And the late great Brad Houser's bass playing on it is all time top 5 favourite bass things for me 🙏

I spent some time today/yesterday rummaging through bass forums and Reddit threads looking for mentions of me... It's instructive to know how one is being spoken about, as much as a small business best practice thing as as a human being... It's nice to find you have advocates in unlikely places.

anyone else struggling to remember what their jobs were before COVID? I've always had a portfolio career, but it feels like a whole bunch of shit just got left behind in 2019/2020 and I never remembered what it was to start doing it again 🤷🏽
