Leading roles aren’t immune. AI can already generate realistic voices and performances. While audiences still crave authenticity, there’s a real possibility of studios leaning on “synthetic stars” for cost savings.

Background actors are most at risk. Instead of hiring hundreds of extras, studios can use AI-generated crowds. Once an extra is scanned, their likeness could be reused indefinitely, raising big questions about consent and pay.

Studios can now scan an actor’s face and body, creating a digital double that can be reused, altered, or even aged/de-aged for future projects. That means less need for reshoots but also fewer days on set for real actors.
