I've said before (re: Truffaut, not Ebert) that I think the only one that pulls it off is "Army of Shadows", which makes the Resistance out, correctly, to be the only moral choice but also shows, correctly, that it was mostly pointless & then you'd be tortured until you betrayed your comrades.

It's not uncommon for official semiformal events in the United States (such as diplomatic receptions) to have a dress code of "black tie or national dress", where these great outfits would make a big impression. Cool!
