Like- they're forced to act out of character or play into the author's (cough cough me) power fantasy- be aware of the genre and know things they shouldn't

The soul in this version isn't a player since I'm not a game dev- could be fun to have it be a different color and represent the will of the author

Their parents though are for the most part not straight up neglectful so it could also be an interesting angle to explore it from the parent's perspectives- trying to save their children from the prophecy, and the soul in one of their cases
