Doing well James. Periodically bolstering each others sanity during these mad times. Binged watched the first 5 episodes of the latest season of Slow Horses on AppleTV cuz this stingy one purchased only one month of viewing. Did you take your trip to Scotland?

James…and now MAGA is furious over Qatari military base in Western US. Imagine that, inviting a foreign nation to have a military presence in your own country?!?!?!? ……oops, forget that I said that….US has bases in many foreign countries including yours! What’s good for the goose????

The King has spent his life in and using the courts and as POTUS has continued this mastery. That and elections are our lastchances.Looking forward to seeing the results of upcoming Nov state elections. Continued govt shutdown may be ended by dissident GOP members? If that happens, US rightens itself?

Ha!Same in the UK as US.The King wants to send in National Guard to Portland Oregon.Proclaims the city is a disaster and burning to the ground.TOTALLY false. A federal judge that he appointed agreed with Oregon officials that claim is false. Issued injunction to stop troop action. The man is nuts.

As for Vance,he is an invented farce. Hillbilly Elligy is a lie. He was raised in Middletown,OH a once thriving city between Dayton and Cincy. The middle class industrial area like many was hit by rust-belt blight and now struggles to reinvent itself. Not the ‘poor’Appalachian background he claims.

Local state elections in about 6 weeks. Watching them carefully across the country….the voting both is the only place this insanity can be stopped….

I think we’ve moved on from the rust belt thinking even though fossil fuel hangs on for some who refuse to move on. Many of those states are busy attracting tech businesses and , sssssh, don’t tell anybody, green industries.

Exactly - fear of the unknown rather than curiosity!

This is not a first for US immigration history. The same nonsense was spouted against Chinese, Polish, Italian, and Irish immigrants to name a few yet they all successfully helped ‘Murica to grow. Not sure because of your size and population if ‘illegal’ immigration is a significant problem there.

Dozens of economic studies by independent think tanks show a positive benefit to the economy. The right has taken this non-issue and through their fear mongering have weaponized it into a threat, an ‘invasion’ of the US.

Guardian is on my list of go to’s and this article does sound familiar; however, there may be a significant difference between our countries on the immigrant issue. I contend that immigration is at best a minor issue here in the states. We have plenty of room, housing and jobs for migrants.

If US Supreme Court rules against Birthright Citizenship then after 70 years I’ll lose my citizenship as mum and dad were not American citizens when I was born. So it’s either UK or Canada although Portugal and Spain have inviting Passive Income Visas

Sends me into blurred but very real young childhood memories of standing seemingly forever in long lines holding my mum’s hand waiting to get a polio vaccine so I wouldn’t have to be fitted for an iron lung…it’s not just a mad,mad world but a very sad one also….

Farage’s use of ‘free speech’ is such tripe. Here most Americans don’t understand the concept. Free speech in the Constitution refers solely to criticism of the government. Otherwise there are indeed restrictions on what one can say in public and the workplace. Raskin is on point with Farage.

For me and many Americans, illegal immigration is a non-issue. Our young nation is and continues to be a land of immigrants. The most respected of studies show it as a win for the economy, diversity, and the nation as a whole. Even the most conservative studies show a net zero $ economic effect.

Well done cuz! Quite eye opening for a Yank. One basic difference is that in the US the Constitution gives ‘undocumented’ immigrants rights including due process. Illegal immigration is not a criminal act but rather a civil one. Unfortunately no meaningful immigration legislation here in decades.
