Having a George Herbert moment. Reading Aristotle's Politics, the Chinese reception of Western classics, Śāntideva, and the songs of women in the Hebrew Bible
i cannot handle the presbyterian energy of this post

When seen from this perspective, the OT serves up a rather large spectrum of rival teleologies, all the way from the violent bloodbath of Esther's ending, through the apocalypticism of Daniel, the radical skepticism of Qohelet, to the near-utopian vision of Song of Songs.

That is to say, the "end" envisioned by Ezra/Nehemiah actually stands in quite a bit of tension with the alternative teleologies presented by, say, Ecclesiastes, Second Isaiah, Daniel, and my personal fave, Song of Songs.

A literalist/fundamentalist reading of the Bible will prioritize the "historical" (narrative) ending of the Old Testament—Ezra, Nehemiah, and the narrative behind Malachi.

But if one takes a more polyphonic view of the canon, then we are faced with rival possible endings of the Old Testament.
