Lens Flare (August Curdles Quick) The immersive theatre scene jams its hammer-claws into the city, and the performance art gets competitive fast. It was that year where everyone was suddenly into cloudy lemonade and bars were competing to see who could get most Victorian with it. I was in a fast casual sushi place, watching a couple lose the custody war, returning serve on your lazy sexts, well, it’s too hot to think, who could blame you - when the ceiling collapses, it takes 45 minutes. The upstairs bar at the cinema’s been shut for years but they still put the lights on - I’m not sure who that’s for. Slow down in the shade, speed up in the sun, disappear completely for the rest of the month - I’ll meet you back here when autumn rolls in.

A month at the movies in which I did not watch enough movies . Possibly related : VERY bad mental health run. Solution is clear - watch more and weirder movies in august.
In July, Miles saw Jurassic World Rebirth which they didn’t like very much, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time which they liked quite a bit, Superman (2025) which they loved and Fantastic Four: First Steps which they did not like very much.

“Sometimes a single gesture tells you everything you need to know about how two people relate to each other” is the kind of thing people say and sometimes I think it’s true . The couple in the corner probably early twenties, probably “university age”, whatever that actually is. Early twenties ?I don’t want to think about my past for even a second so let’s skip over that - he is slouched back in his chair, she is upright and leaning forward to work on a small laptop, he scrolls on his phone and sweats in a sports jersey despite the heat, she is all pale blue seasonally appropriate leisurewear - this isn’t the moment, by the way, this is all stuff that happens, all kinds of couples are in the corners of coffee shops, right now even, probably, doing two different things and it doesn’t mean anything - some of them go home happy some of them are already mostly not speaking - this isn’t inherently an inflection point , and it probably isn’t for this couple either but there is a moment where I think it becomes a node on the chart - it’s when he winds up to sigh as heavily as possible and she, without breaking focus on the computer, pulls headphones from her bag and places them on her head with a snap. I give it a month. At that age kids put up with a lot before someone reminds them they’re supposed to be happy.

In April, Miles saw The Amateur and Death of a Unicorn and thought they were ok, he rewatched The Accountant and liked it quite a bit and then saw The Accountant 2 which he liked a little bit more . He also saw Sinners, which he loved, and Warfare, which he hated.
