After hearing your feedback about the directional sound clue, we have reversed the blue sound waves!

It is indeed a lot more intuitive in representing that the unit is the one hearing something, not the other way around! 😅

Directional sound clues are one of the new features coming in the 1.1 patch!

These will help locate enemies when the player hasn't seen one for a while. Finding that last enemy on the map will become a lot easier! 🔎

Thank you for hosting #TurnBasedThursday!

We have recently released Slaves of Magic, a medieval fantasy XCOM-like game!

We are currently preparing our first major patch, featuring quality-of-life improvements such as better transparent walls.🧐

Another thing that is coming for our first bigger patch is a header image for every research.

While every research option has its own description already, having an added visual representation as well can make them more memorable!

Preparations for our first big patch are ongoing. One of the quality of life improvements that is coming is better transparent walls!🧐

With some shader magic, parts of the wall remain when the player "peeks" behind it. Making the wall and things behind seeable at the same time!

Thank you for hosting #TurnBasedThursday!

We just released Slaves of Magic, a medieval fantasy XCOM-like game, last week! 🎉

I'm working diligently to address player feedback. For example, yesterday I added support for ultra-wide resolutions!

We have just released Slaves of Magic, a medieval fantasy Xcom-like on Steam this Monday #PitchYaGame!

Instead of me doing the pitching, check out some of our fans' reviews. Most of them have 10+ hours already, while it's not even the weekend yet! 😳

Thank you to all who participated in the giveaway, and without further ado, let's draw for the 2 winners! 🎉

If you see your name, check your DM, Commander!

I wouldn't have hoped to reach 10 reviews in 2 days, so I thank all of you for your support! 🙏

Leaving reviews is always very helpful, especially for small indie games like ours. Reaching 10 reviews is a very important milestone to be able to receive an overall rating.

Character build variety is another big part of replayability! ⚔️✨

There are 8 regular, 3 magic, and 1 universal skill schools — each with 6 unique abilities.

Every character can combine 2 schools by default… and with the right setup, even 3!

I'm happy to announce that Slaves of Magic has passed 10,000 wishlists, just in time for our release tomorrow! 🥳

Replayability was a big design goal for Slaves of Magic, and one key piece was diverse starting locations! 🗺️

There are 6 regions, each with unique starting rosters, skill schools, and a special regional bonus for your campaign! ⚔️

One of my main goals when designing Slaves of Magic was to boost replayability compared to other XCOM-likes. ♻️

The game features 42 different enemy types, and it’s impossible to encounter them all in a single campaign! 👀

We just made it into the top 10 of Steam’s Popular Upcoming list! 🎉

When we started working on Slaves of Magic 4 years ago, we never dreamed of reaching even this point.

Huge thanks to everyone who wishlisted, shared, or supported us along the way. You made this happen! 🙏

One of the unique aspects of Slaves of Magic is how battles begin! ⚔️

Before combat, you can teleport your squad anywhere on the map for a fast, tactical start.

To keep surprises alive, you only get limited scrying charges to scout ahead though! 🔮

One technical aspect I’m really proud of in our custom 2D isometric engine is the dynamic lighting system. 💡

It combines the classic X-COM tile-based lighting with modern per-pixel techniques to respect the wall boundaries in 2D!

And to close it off, a lightning bolt inside our current version!

This one starts to look like our final production, but a lot of finer details are missing.

Here you can see a glimpse of the mentioned tick system!
October 28, 2025 at 9:12 AM
Slaves of Magic went through a lot of iterations in these 4+ years, and I thought it might be fun to put them side-by-side!

For example, our very first publicly available demo used a tick system like in roguelikes. Sadly, it was very unwieldy, especially for keeping formation!😅

Let’s start with something fun! 😄

A few years ago, we briefly tried making TikTok content for Slaves of Magic.

It wasn't exactly a big success… but it did give us this gem! (turn on sounds!)

And yes, shields are still destroyable in-game!
