Btw if your Serbo-Croat ain’t all that, there are subtitled versions of The Last Yugoslavian Team.

but, weirdly, they’re missing 25-30 minutes, incl. all of Prosinečki.

Best to put the original through a translator.

Props to @jonawils.bsky.social for a lovely tribute to Nikita Simonyan in the intro.

Very enjoyable - and sensible - Premier League analysis with your standard references to Bela Guttman thrown in.

Watched The Last Yugoslavian Football Team (filmed around the Yugoslavia-Croatia Euro 2000 qualifiers) on the way to & from the Emirates on Sunday. Like stepping into a Kapadia film.

Great cast: Mihajlović, Boban, Savičević, Osim, Prosinečki, Mijatović

A genuinely astonishing stat
Only the fourth ever hat-trick in this fixture, after Ted Drake (Arsenal, October 1934), Terry Dyson (Spurs, August 1961) and Alan Sunderland (Arsenal, December 1978) according to Opta.

Seems mad, but suppose it's always been a game between two teams relatively close to each other - unlike today.

When Arsenal signed Eze, my gut feeling was “ooooh… he could be THE one, you know.”

Thought Arsenal were impossible to play against today & then there was Eze when they had the ball. Such brilliant feet for all three goals. Chapeau! #ARSTOT

My chum Maria went to Glasgow on Tuesday. She saw things, spoke to randoms & filmed a lot of people crying and falling over. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇩🇰

Tell you what, Yugoslavia between the wars was a funny old place but the football governance was truly something else. It’s exhausting just reading about how mad it all was… not sure how anyone had any energy left for the actual football.

Too many hard-luck stories in so many of their games this season (Galatasaray pen, United head injury etc). Ultimately the not-great teams leave themselves open to those margins and that's where Liverpool are.

Games against City really do show where Liverpool are in a given season. If they are off it, they take a hammering. City do not let them off. #MCILIV

Above Napoli. Above Juventus.
It is an historic night for Cypriot side Pafos.

They earned their first-ever win in the Champions League, beating Villarreal in Kolossi thanks to Derrick Luckassen’s header from Ken Sema’s corner.

Very few teams muster 2.5 non-penalty xG and nine shots on target against Real Madrid.

Liverpool just did.

Best performance since City away in February… but, yeah, why didn’t Slot play his best XI against Palace? 🤷
Liverpool beat Real Madrid 1-0 at Anfield thanks to Alexis Mac Allister's goal.

A huge win for Arne Slot's side, with Manchester City next on Sunday.

First Liverpool game with only one sub since 3-3 at Brentford in 2021.

Slot hadn’t previously made fewer than three substitutions at Liverpool
When was the last time Arne only made 1 sub, @andrewbeasleyfootball.com?

I can’t be the only person, who winces every time the “Swiss model” is mentioned. Anyone who’s ever played chess knows that the model that’s used in the Champions League really isn’t very “Swiss” at all.
The man who says he invented the Champions League’s new format - what he calls the “pots” format but has become known as the “Swiss model” - is suing UEFA for €20m because he claims they stole it. UEFA denies it but it’s been that kind of week for the governing body.
