Mississippi is one of the few states where people can be jailed indefinitely without indictment, which has contributed to the overcrowding, violence and dysfunction that put Raymond Detention Center—Hinds County’s primary jail—under federal control in the first place.

This would be fucking hilarious if it wasn’t such a depressing sign of how deep in the sewer we are.
Trump rages that Henry Cuellar didn’t pay him back for a pardon by switching parties, blasting Cuellar for a “lack of LOYALTY.”

In other words, Trump admits he was trying to use his pardon power to buy Republicans a House seat.

“confident that what might have happened to other people would never happen to him.”

Here lies the issue. It can happen to any of us when profits matter more than lives. Healthcare should not be maximizing profits for shareholders board members and admins.

Why are people in Albany, Georgia, so sick when its most powerful institution is a hospital?

Not an exaggeration, btw. I’ve lived here nearly 1/2 my life & it’s the same shit from the same commercial lots. It‘s one giant conspiracy by neo-confederate business segregationists. I guarantee you this isn’t unique to Westport. It’s a rare preview into the unspoken law of American small business.

This is what folks could’ve helped to vote for. But they sat at home. Yall need to watch more documentaries and read more history. We can not heal until we admit just how systemic and evil this system of hate against Black Americans is throughout America past and present.
160 years ago, the 13th Amendment was ratified, ending slavery. But that amendment came with a sinister loophole: a Slavery Clause that allowed for slavery “as punishment for crime.”

We need to pass @repnikema.bsky.social’s and my Abolition Amendment to #EndTheException once and for all!

Heartbreaking. The University of Nebraska will terminate its entire Earth science department.

One of the country's most successful and respected geology & climate programs: gone.

When ideologues & politicians are threatened by the very act of studying climate change, I wonder: who of us is next?
It's over.

Despite the fact that the academic council recommended against it, despite the fact that the program brought in more tuition than it cost, and despite the fact that Nebraskans need & deserve this expertise, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences will be cut.
