I’m so sorry that this is your experience. People who have not been thru anything like this don’t understand how baseline traumatic it is, let alone what a nightmare it becomes with compounding factors.

Thanks ❤️ I’ve been doing this since before I was ok, but now I’m ok, so I can keep doing it. The more ppl understand that it’s normal to be upset by this type of news, the better. Those who have not been desensitized are not the broken ones—it’s the opposite. It helps me to remember that.

I’m so sorry that happened to you. It’s sadly not uncommon. My husband’s stories from sports camp are horrifying. It’s something we’re always mindful of wrt our son.

Often assumed to be perpetrators but far more likely to be victims.

On the one hand, the outrage is vindicating. Yes it is this bad. Yes it has always been this bad. Yes, when it comes to sexual exploitation of women, girls, boys, addicts, disabled ppl, poor ppl, queer ppl, ppl w/o support systems, there is an entire society keeping us weak & victimized. Yes.

Many of my former students had a music teacher who had made the news after finally being convicted & it hit one particularly hard not bc they’d been a victim but bc they realized they could have been, bc some men prey on ppl like him specifically. It was really tough bc he had no support at home.

I think it’s one of those things that cuts through for so many ppl while also being completely confounding to others. For me a lot of it is also bc of my job. Being an outcry witness so many times. Watching teen girls & boys find out the hard way that to many they are mere objects & not full ppl.

“Don’t look away” is to me the correct directive to men who don’t understand, or perhaps to women who enable these men w/o realizing how utterly stupid & terrible they actually are. But for those of us who understand deeply, who’ve been trying to show ppl this forever, we need to protect our peace.

Confirms my theory that the worst ppl in the world are also the same ppl who like sending & receiving lots & lots of emails. Emails are evil.

All this to say, when trans people can be out, that’s def when they are the most handsome and beautiful!

For folks able to be themselves- it brings such a glow that it radiates even on soured days.

Glad you were able to come out!

Seriously considering not following things esp bc ppl don’t know how to talk about stuff in the recognition that for 1/4 of us this this is real & personal not just a political happening & material for their stupid takes.

Yes. Speaking strictly historically, yes.
