Weeds later seasons are a completely different show - tonally and thematically - from its first season, The Riches…never came back?

My sense is that the writer’s strike gets the blame for a lot of shows when my suspicion is that - for some of the same reasons the strike happened - prestige dramas were getting green-lit with an awesome first season but creative juices were exhausted by season 2.

The drop-off was really incredible, like they clearly used up all their ideas on Season 1. If LLMs had been around for the subsequent seasons I’d have assumed they just used AI to generate them. WHY ARE WE IN SHOGUN-ERA JAPAN????

Okay but this was awhile ago and that was not the logic. They just didn’t want people who were unbanked or paid in cash to be unable to buy a sandwich.

One of these things is not like the other.

Sounds like you think we need more oystermen in Congress. ::: ducks :::

Clearly too few media elites wore out a vhs copy of Field of Dreams as a kid.

It’s also infinitely less likely that that five mile drive will be a mile as the crow flies but you have to go through a labyrinth of cul-de-sacs and cross a highway to get there.

The appropriate turkey cooking temp is 275 anyway.

Maybe I’m wishcasting but I really can’t help but look at the last few years as Covid having broken our brains and Trump being a fever that is breaking and everyone returning to sanity and finally calling out his bullshit again.

Isn’t he Aussie anyway?

Even taking this argument at face value, the people who think everything is getting worse didn’t just start to think that in January of this year. It’s a central part of their narrative that things have been getting worse since the ‘70s.

They experimented with some videos going in that direction, but the issue was that it was so off-brand relative to their other content that they just ended up abandoning the experiment. More a comment on algo secret sauce than anything, but aligns with my YT assumptions.

Anecdotally, I have a friend who is a popular food influencer (still has a day job but followers in the hundreds of thousands across IG and TikTok, gets a lot of free stuff). They told me they couldn’t get any traction on YouTube without pivoting their content to be highly negative.

My hot and maybe unfounded take is that we have a certain region that punches way above its weight culturally and educationally that was founded in moralizing and penance and when we do bad shit that region’s influence is felt in our insistence on having a conscience even if we look like hypocrites.

I’m really curious how JD Vance and his Indian family (and Indian wedding) fit into this paradigm. Or Kash Patel, for that matter. Afghans can’t possibly assimilate but Desis can? Is it ostensibly a Muslim thing?

If it’s not AI, I’d get gravy elsewhere.

Recognizing the Korean War is complicated, the War Memorial of Korea is quite moving, recognizing every foreign KIA by name and country (and, in the case of the US, state). Forgotten war to some but not all.

Not so in the US.

I’m pretty sure in NYC our Council mandated that businesses accept cash a few years ago.

Flip side is that people who live in the woods are really into “where will we get our food if we build solar farms here?” while getting all their food from the supermarket.

This is a good reminder that there are *hundreds* of victims.
