I was lucky enough to be at the first public performance of the music from that album in Halmstad as a guest of the IB gang (I'd been going to their annual Expo for several years before). Hearing PH rehearsing with them at close quarters was, well, fucking astonishing.

Honestly, the best album Van der Graaf Generator never made.

I was at the same gig. I'd travelled up from Newcastle with my sister Lesley. The last time we both saw Fripp on stage together was at Birmingham Town Hall in 1973, so there was a nice symmetry to it.

Terrific set.

It's the steps to a railway bridge, late afternoon. The light had taken on a weird vibe due to impending snow or rain. Suddenly very cold and very quiet - no cars, no trains, and most tellingly, no birdsong - I stopped and took the pic.
