My latest post discusses the potential trade and spatial implications of Canada's regulated system of dairy production, supply management.
TL/DR: Canada's production per person is extremely uniform compared to U.S.; homogenized, you might say.

We also found an Alchian-Allen effect, in which farmers shifted production toward high-value per-tonne crops (canola vs. wheat) and let less of their land sit idle.
Larger farms also sped up their adoption of productivity-enhancing planting technology

That was a nice piece!
I have a paper where I estimated the impact of removing ag subsidies in Western Canada (a railway freight subsidy on exported grain), exploiting spatial variation in the $/tonne magnitude of the shock.
Sure enough, value-added and land values dropped. doi.org/10.1111/1477...

New working paper!

"The Causal Effects of Climate Investment Subsidies: Regression Discontinuity Evidence from Swedish Firms" (with Johanna Nolgren)

res.slu.se/id/publ/131720

We study a major Swedish grant program (Klimatklivet) subsidizing firms' GHG-reducing investments.

Feedback welcome!

How am I supposed to focus on grading exams with a chip bag just lying there, outside my office door?
