4 years earlier, under Commodore Alexander Slidell Mackenzie, 3 of her crew were hanged for mutiny in what became known as the Somers Affair. It is the only instance of executions for mutiny in US Navy history. (3/3)⚓

She foundered in a storm, off Cabo Corrubedo, Spain with all 144 on board lost. The wreck was discovered two days later by a fisherman on the sunken rocks at Cabo Corrubedo.
