Anyway, the cousins I talked to were universally ashamed, though varied in how they talked about that. (Language barriers may have played a role there.)

TL;DR: institutionalizing efforts to instill racial superiority messages in kids scares the shit out of me and could haunt generations.

Obviously many adults did too! But it wasn’t always that straightforward; sometimes generations disagreed in a household. How many kids think teachers may know more than parents? Or vice versa?

What started out as an extreme viewpoint that a relatively small (but vocal) group of people espoused became institutionalized over the course of a couple years. Kids adapt quickly. So, after a few years of it being what was approved in primary/middle school, kids went along with it.
