Happy #TolkienReadingDay! I had the pleasure of rejoining @prancingponypod.bsky.social for the 10th annual TRD episode, and joined a stellar lineup of readers for A Long Expected Soundscape’s TRD Special on YouTube on Sunday.

What are you reading, and why?

To Christopher!

A toast to Christopher Tolkien on what would have been his 100th birthday, for his lifelong dedication to his father‘s literary legacy and for bringing so much more Middle-earth to light for fans around the world. His importance to us fans cannot be overstated. Eglerio! Praise him with great praise!

This is him. He’s quite the troublemaker, just like Tevildo. 😂

#TolkienTrewsday: “Christopher”

In the preface to The Fall of Gondolin (2018), Christopher Tolkien wrote these words. As a tribute to him, please join me in recognizing how masterfully he achieved this “underlying purpose” and acknowledging the debt we owe him as fans of Middle-earth.

My new favorite passage in Tolkien’s expanded Letters, from No. 36a to Michael Tolkien, March 1, 1939.

The “infernal lecture” he had not yet written would turn out to be “On Fairy-stories,” and was presented in Scotland *seven days later.*
