They just freshened up the Go Lynx street mural on 1st Ave N for the playoff run. Someone who works for the team told me the first person to notice was Sylvia Fowles!

Got to tour the Mpls Public Works Traffic Mgmt Center this week with the @moveminneapolis.bsky.social Advisory Board this week - highly recommend it. They print their own signs (~4,400 unique ones in the city!), manage signal timing, street painting, etc.

I brought my kids to the ribbon cutting for @fowlingmsp.bsky.social this morning - pretty fun. They’re excited about Royalston LRT Station opening in 2027 and have an idea for a walkway through to the Farmers Market.

Dinner du Nord was really lovely last night! We talked with strangers, ate really good food from a new restaurant on Nicollet (Esther’s Table), and enjoyed a beautiful night downtown. I’m inspired by Scott Mayer - who started Doors Open, too - to organize such a complex event as a volunteer.

Happy Bike to Work Day! I celebrated by using our building’s secure bike parking room for the first time (shout-out, Young-Quinlan Building).

Isn’t she a beaut.

I wrote an Op-Ed about the impending closure of the WestRock plant in Saint Paul and why places like it and the surrounding Creative Enterprise Zone matter for the city.

What about large spaces versus small?

There are 70 retail spaces over 10k sq ft downtown overall and 47 are occupied. The large vacant spaces are not evenly distributed across downtown (see dots below).

The narrative around downtown Mpls retail doesn't match the reality that we have 700+ occupied retail spaces and vacancy rates that vary widely by place and other variables.

North Loop is a retail hot spot and the inventory bears that out - the vacancy rate of its 770k SF is 7%.

The Retail Inventory tool allows you to search spaces in downtown Mpls by occupancy, neighborhood, size, ground floor vs skyway, and more.

Big ups, Tamworth.

That’s a wrap on the 11th month of bike commuting of the year! Still easier than you’d think.

We just published Downtown by Design, our 2035 Plan for the future of downtown Mpls.

This is a cool moment for me - I was in planning school when the last of these plans came out and I was deeply inspired by it. I hope this plan has a similar effect for others now.

Am I a hackneyed character in someone else’s Creative Writing 101 short story?
