Drafting about Chagall fleeing N*zi France for NY, his beloved wife suddenly dying, a year of mourning (no art) until Balanchine commissions him to design costumes / sets for the reimagined Firebird ballet (Stravinsky) with genius Maria Tallchief in titular role. The world sucks, but there's that.

Grateful for the radiant talent and vision of #JudithJamison, who helped transform American movement as both dancer and, later, director of Alvin Ailey. If you need a dose of excellence, beauty, and joy, look her up. RIP.

Haven't really been doing the whole blue sky thing, but reviewing this book by Irish poet Rosamund Taylor with enthusiasm and admiration, especially for inventive queer love poems! A wonderful debut.

Both livid and sad about the treatment of editors and staff at Gettysburg Review. I hope the lit community will speak out against the sudden shuttering of the magazine.

This barn never fails to deliver! Thanks to the entire VCCA staff for the chance to return to studio W8. A short stay, but I'm walking away with a new essay on disordered sleep, interview in-progress, and review of four recent collections of Irish poetry. 🖤

Been thinking about and rereading "Headwaters" by Ellen Bryant Voigt, a poem--from her outstanding collection by the same name--that continues to resonate more deeply every year that I'm alive.

It's that time of year: dreaming myself back to the path in Winchester where #Keats composed "To Autumn". Thanks, as always, to @kenyonreview.bsky.social for publishing this essay in memory of Stanley Plumly. kenyonreview.org/kr-online-is...
