Trump is attacking the Smithsonian museum, saying there’s too much focus on "how bad slavery was."

Authoritarians know that if they can convince us our country has never been wrong, they can make us believe our ruler is always right.

This is part of a larger plan. Watch: youtu.be/rEH7sF6pA4s?...

Friendly reminder that AI data centers are working overtime to help cook the planet. If the fires are scaring you— start using ‘-AI’ at the end of all Google searches to cut out any AI response to your query. Refusal is possible & responsible.

the truth is that every song of this country
has an unsung third stanza, something brutal
snaking underneath us as we absent-mindedly sing
the high notes with a beer sloshing in the stands

Why I’m Not Celebrating the 4th This Year

The disappointment I feel toward friends and family who continue to vote for, and cheer on, those destroying my profession—public education and libraries—is overwhelming. These aren’t just “political differences.” (1/7)

🚨NEW🚨: Donald Trump is attempting to strip away federal support for libraries. We will NOT let that happen.

Last night the President signed an order to gut the Institute of Museum & Library Services. But together, we know we can show up & defeat it.

See: why the goal isn't to shut down libraries when it comes to these attacks on library workers and on books.

It's to shut down PUBLIC libraries and turn them into for-profit institutions for the elite so the elite can pat themselves on the back about it.

They're not dumb. They're coordinated.
There's an impulse to give these fuckers the benefit of the doubt--"oh, they're just too ignorant/dumb to understand what they're doing"--when the point is: they don't give the first fuck how anything works already, they're looking for how THEY can control things and profit from them, period.

Rest In Peace, Jules Feiffer. Died just shy of his 96th birthday, but he was still as vital as ever, plugging away on his next book. The way 2025's been going, I'm not surprised we lost our greatest living cartoonist less than a month into it.

Finally I feel like someone understands the moss terror I felt in Portland. I went from "it's really green here" (coming from the desert) to "is the moss actually invading?"
Obsessed with these beseeching moss trees here in Portland.
