I wanted to write this thread to remind you to be kind to everyone who works at shelters or in animal rescue. The suicide rate is the same of police and other first responders. Every day is hard, and every day, there will be people telling you you're not doing enough 💔

And I just got a message from an adopter that one of our senior former shelter cats passed away, surrounded by his loving family. Every single day deals with the life and death of animals, and some people will always be cruel because they don't think you're doing enough.

In the snuggling picture, that's my husband she's snuggling. I'm just posting so you realize that every single day is like this. Yesterday, I had to authorize an emergency euthanasia for one of our senior shelter dogs in hospice foster.

Today, the dog was trapped, and was SO AGGRESSIVE at first that Carol Boggs, our expert humane trapper, was like, "Watch out! I hope this dog is just scared." It turns out, the dog is a SHE, and she was just *terrified.* Once she realized she was safe, she was so sweet.

I responded, explaining the situation, and kind people put food out for the dog. You can't just trap an animal. You have to have a plan in place and a place for the dog to go to. You have to be careful in case the dog happens to be aggressive (which scared animals often are).
