Saw the outcome of this today, a load of trees hacked to nubs, a thriving, vivacious rookery destroyed, its inhabitants made homeless as winter arrives. But yeah, cars🤬 #ecocide #LaoisCoCo

TFW you realise your families know you all too well: we threw a lunch yesterday to celebrate 10 years of smallholding & received gifts of (inter alia) wine, whiskey, gin, cake, sweets, book tokens, & a gift voucher for the local hardware store. Lovely day, lovely people. Still doing the washing-up!

Greenhouse packed I think we can finally start planting out as the cold spring comes to an end. My tomatoes are still stupidly small this year but I hope they will grow in the ground. Not shown but brassicas looking great this year.

Not on social media recently (🌞🌞= busy👩‍🌾); today's the 10th anniversary of my last day at OPCW. 10 years of the occasionally hair-raising plunge into horticulture that followed is compressed, for your entertainment, into about three minutes. (Not the day job. You know what a desk looks like..)

In the last few weeks traveling around the country I recorded a lot of wildlife and livestock enjoying spring. I put them all together in one place. The radio audience loved it, you might find it a bit of a refuge too.

It doesn't get much attention but the EU energy efficiency directive obliges Ireland to reduce absolute energy demand by 2030 by 12.6% (vs 2022).

Instead Government is doubling down on data centres, driving electricity and gas demand and calling it 'green growth'.
The demand for electricity in Ireland is expected to rise by 45% in the next decade, according to EirGrid.

Data centres and and any other new technology-related energy drains are forecast to account for 31% of electricity demand by 2034.

Data centres to account for almost one-third of Ireland's electricity demand by 2034
Over the next few years, there is a “potentially challenging outlook” in Ireland, EirGrid says.
