Google are really being some petty assholes here. But they have no idea how petty I can be or how long I can hold a grudge.
It stops sorting your inbox into folders, btw, when you turn this off. As the inbox folders predate Gemini, this is a passive-aggressive attempt to make gmail a miserable experience unless you turn AI on, not a necessity.
Really, *really* inconvenient but makes me more determined to keep it off.

If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."
There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

I am slowly making my way through the @fivefourpod.bsky.social archive and it continues to be equal parts informative, hilarious and soul-crushingly depressing. I especially like episodes like Navarette v Cali- I didn’t question the decision @ 1st glance, but they clearly lay out all the issues.
