But now, time for the out-of-office to be switched on, to down tools for a couple of weeks and get ready to hit my beloved Latin America for tacos, sun and a reset.

It’s been amazing to lead the fight to secure the best possible languages provision for our students and working with absolutely amazing people up and down the country - doing our best to surge forward.

But with an air of negativity surrounding MFL, including grading being harsher than other EBacc subjects, we must ensure we never fall victim to becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy of languages being too difficult, not relevant for today’s young people and a privilege only for some and not for all.

- and that’s before even considering the usual day-to-day business of teaching the best quality lessons possible.

I do think there is the need for a vocational qualification in a language. But I feel the current system that is set up to be academic in nature and favour academic routes will make it a no-go.

The role will be predominantly field-based, with travel to our schools across the country but particularly in the North (Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Yorkshire and Carlisle). Home-working is also a core element of the role, and we envisage a broadly 60%-40% split between the two.
