I've cancelled Spotify and am trying Qobuz.

The quality is great, but the recommended engine is worse.

It kind of makes me want to self host my music, but thanks to a decade of Spotify I don't own any of it.

...but I'm tired of life being a subscription.

Hm.

I look out the window as I drive my daughter to school, and see the fog hanging low over the buildings. "Mornings like these look like an N64 game," I think to myself.

Quickly followed by "WOW, that would be an awful beginning to a TERRIBLE poem."

Tim Sweeny's defenses of AI in games development seems like a lot of words to say "What if video games in the future were terrible and bland?

Really BIG terrible and bland games with LOTS OF CHARACTERS, Sweeny says as if a lot of a bad thing is better than a little of a good thing, but alas

glad to see pushback

learning and skill growth happen when what we knew going into a problem weren't enough to answer and move on. AI flatters you to feel you know enough to get an answer out (often not right, but even if it were!), user doesn't have to become more capable, becomes dependent on it.

note the legals: LRG's using Japan's arbitration system for orphaned games to reissue Little Samson—if you can demonstrate that you've made a genuine effort to contact/identify a potential rights owner to no avail, you can legally commercialise an old game by paying royalties to the JP govt, which…

Can any car people explain to me why my 4-cylinder two-seater pickup truck from 1996 has a speedometer that goes up to 120. When even when it was new it struggled to get to 85?

Even the higher to your packages of this truck probably could never get to 100. Why not make the speedometer match?

Musk has his little fantasy about an "everything app," but that already existed.

It was a web browser. Social media, bank, video, music, games, news, shopping. Everything in one place.

Now my phone has 30-50 single-use web browsers.

As a Windows device, none of this is a huge ask of the user, but imagine that someone who really liked the Switch and heard this newfangled Xbox was even more powerful picked this up and _this_ was what they had to contend with.
