Too many institutions, organizations and individuals foster or won't push back against this, and it just makes them bolder and more aggressive.

The time for support was years ago but it's never too late to be ethical.

They keep paying for registered mail and notaries, and I'm not sure what their end-game is (they're not getting $$ from me).

The fact that ppl keep notarizing this obviously harassing crap pisses me off as much as anything.

Good evidence of no need for post-op antibiotics for pyometra surgery.

Supportive evidence for no need to treat subclinical bacteriuria.

Antibiotics for pyometra surgery in dogs
It's World AMR Awareness Week. Did you know that? (Probably not. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a huge global health threat with a crappy marketing

Post-op UTI: 2.7% in antibiotic group, and 0 in placebo group

Dogs with pre-op bacteriuria: 14/20 (70%) in the placebo group and 2/23 (8.7%) in the treatment group were bacteriuric post-op.

But only 2 developed infections, both in the antibiotic group.

Leptospirosis has a wildlife reservoir, but dogs can (rarely, but non-zero risk) infect other animals or people, so there's mainly a risk to the unvaccinated dog, but some broader risk.

Vaccine hesitancy; impact on dog and cat vaccination
Canada recently lose measles-free status, in large part because of a slip in overall vaccination rate. The resurgence of measles in people shows what can

Kennel cough vaccines aren't great for control and aim mostly at reducing disease in vaxxed dogs, so ⬇️ vax coverage mainly increases risk to the unvaxxed dogs, not the broader population.

Modest⬇️in rabies vaccination would increase risk to the unvaxxed dog/cat, and more rabies means 🔼🔼 costs for public health responses, and risk to ppl and animal contacts

Risk of⬇️vax leading to re-establishment of (eradicated in Canada/US) canine variant rabies is v low

For dogs, distemper and parvovirus are still endemic and not on the verge of eradication.

Reduced vaccination mainly impacts the unvaccinated dog (and unvaccinated dogs that are exposed), but there are downstream effects for puppies that are not yet able to be vaccinated.

It's a bit different with animals vs humans. Canada has lost measles-free status because of a drop in vaccination rate.

We don't have that high of a baseline risk in dogs/cats and we don't have a similarly well controlled, high transmissible disease analog.

Unlike our 'core' (DAPP, FVRVP) modified live or recombinant vaccines, we're confident in the response rabies vaccine at 12 weeks. Maternal antibodies have less impact on a killed vaccine like rabies vaccine.

Rabies vaccines are licensed for use at 12 weeks of age.

In Ontario, the legal requirement is vaccination at 3 months of age.

Earlier protection means less risk of long confinement periods after potential rabies exposure (which sometimes leads to euthanasia).

They have to address conspiracy theories.

They have to explain they have nothing to do with some online petitions.

They shouldn't have to deal with any of that.

They're an example of responsible livestock ownership and should be supported.
