Career journalist now Chief of Content for InDro Robotics. Former CBC National News, Toronto Star. Co-author three real best-selling books (two on mental health, one on Tiananmen Square). Worked in China, Moscow. Amateur photographer. Funny - but not odd.
It’s been 36 years since Tiananmen Square. The pro-democracy movement remains by far the biggest story I’ve had the privilege of witnessing. Those people were very brave.

Stolen from FB and with good reason. Left and right side of this image have the same number of dots. It’s apparently called the extinction illusion. And it’s a good one:

It’s been snowing and currently feels like -13C in Toronto. Tomorrow it will be +17. Crazy.

Read the first two paragraphs of this story by @theguardian.com’s Emma Beddington. There’s a line there that is pure gold:

Scott’s forecast for Toronto: The sun has arrived once again but you’ll see it only sometimes. There’s a bit of snow on the ground; enough for some to sweep and most to ignore. Most of us will find the temperature pleasant.

Ranger. A rescue who made his way from a kill shelter in West Virginia to Toronto. Absolutely amazing dog. I am so grateful. And suspect he is, too. ❤️

Another day on planet Earth…If you compressed Earth's 4.5 billion-year history into a single 24-hour day, humanity's existence would barely register on the clock. In this timeline, humans wouldn't appear until 11:58:43 PM.

Looks like the Sylvia Hotel is nearby. If you’re ever in there and go into a room off the lobby, it’s dedicated to my mom and an illustrator who wrote a well-known children’s book about a cat at the hotel.

Is this a dog or a coyote? We have lots of coyotes in Toronto.

Most unusual Christmas ever. Visiting my mother-in-law at a retirement home. We rented the “Thai Breezes” room, which has sun lamps and is meant make you feel like you’re on the beach. If you close your eyes…it’s not a bad simulation. Merry Christmas! 🎄

This pile of belongings, and a couple of bouquets of flowers, mark the spot where a homeless woman froze to death two days ago. Just a 10-minute walk from me. She had apparently refused housing and had mental health issues. I’m unsure what the answer is, but surely Toronto can do better. RIP

Recent find. Me, a *very* long time ago, drumming for #China's biggest rock star - #CuiJian. His band opened for The Rolling Stones in Shanghai in 2014. He still plays, is still famous, and also makes films. Great guy.

Shoulda kept that gig.

Just installed it. Huge difference. Why didn’t I do this a year ago, lol? Lesson learned, and let there be light:
