During the proposed amalgamation of the Preston Board of Education with the Waterloo County Board of Education, monies had been set aside for a new senior public school in Preston. With the ratification of merger, the governing body for the Preston Board of Education decided to spare no expense in building what is today William G. Davis Senior Public School. The architect and builder made certain to include features in this new school that would give it a distinctive character. The courtyard, the size and hardwood floor of the gymnasium and the skylight are a few of these special features. The builder even created the beautiful tile mosaic you see upon entrance into our school.

Letter to the editor from yesterday's @thestar.com, responding to the Trustee who published an op-ed in favour of eliminating the position. Unasked and unanswered: If he didn't support the role of Trustee, then why did he even put his name forward in 2022?
Locally elected school trustees fundamentally important to education system I’m a school board trustee and the trustee system has outlived its purpose, Nov. 14 I’m a parent and I value our elected school board trustees. I disagree with the perspective put forward in this opinion article. This is a role dedicated to advocating for our children and our education system. The people who fill it work hard for our children. Trustees are dedicated to their communities, serving children and providing us (parents and families) a means of navigating complex school systems. Trustees are elected by, and accountable to the community. In the face of a massive education system and ministry, having a representative who cares and is dedicated to our kids matters more than ever. Beloved parts of our system were initiated at the trustee level and grown to be part of province-wide education. These include breakfast and nutrition policies, full-day kindergarten, childcare in schools, co-op programs in high school and continuing education for adults, school council models. It’s heartbreaking to know this provincial government is trying to get rid of a level of elected government so important and focused on our children. Where is the funding coming from? Not from the Province, but from within the board's existing "resource complement".
The school board will identify dedicated leadership and staffing support from within its resource complement to operationalize the Student and Family Support Office.

Last month Education Minister Paul Calandra introduced Bill 33, the Supporting Children and Students Act. If passed by the legislature, the bill would substantially expand the minister’s ability to investigate a board’s conduct and give directions — and assume a board’s powers if those directions aren’t followed. For extra measure, the bill would also let the government veto the renaming of any schools; so, plans to take the names of John A. Macdonald or Egerton Ryerson off the signage at Toronto-area schools are dead for now.

I looked them up, and the two Independents are both incumbents - a former Liberal (expelled from caucus) and a former PCer who crossed the floor to the Liberals and was later expelled from caucus.

This charming little anecdote will appeal to his vigilante base (which oddly is also the same group that approves of cutting down speed cameras), but it's exactly the opposite of what the police would tell you to do if you see a crime being committed.
