Not a traditional Thanksgiving at our house today, but I made a huge pot of shrimp and crab gumbo that reminds me so much of my gulf coast (Gulf of Mexico still) home. My great grandmother’s gumbo recipe & my Aunt Flora’s Broccoli Cheddar Cornbread & it is the most comforting meal to me.

So I decided to put my cooking class I took in Porto to work and made my first batch of Pastel de Nata to take in a Friendsgiving this afternoon.

I have seen some amazing MAGA 🐂💩this morning. First a trunt claiming he was saying “Peggy” not Piggy because it was Peggy Noonan. Then another one saying it was Peggy Hull. Peggy Noonan is 75yo and not in press pool. Peggy Hull died in 1967. MAGA really is just this stupid and deplorable.

We nearly had Medicare for all in 1945, but then the GOP fought it back calling it “communist” and “un-American”.

It’s been an amazing 3 weeks of travels. I’m very grateful for the privilege of being able to do this.

And a stroll along the Champs Elysees where we enjoyed coffees, sandwiches and some delightful people watching.

For our last day on holiday @drkimshepherd.bsky.social @drjudystone.bsky.social @lappinscott.bsky.social we just started our morning with coffee and croissants and then spent that revisiting some of our favorite spots. George Pompidou was up first

Shameful to realize convict leasing is an industry in Alabama.

And here I am with the gargoyles in 1986 and again yesterday. We have both aged a bit, but the gargoyle is better restored than me. 😊

The views up there were spectacular

Those gargoyles and birds have always been my favorites

We got lucky and were also able to take the tower tour. It was sold out, but when Juan told the clerk it was his birthday, she made a call to her colleague and got us admitted. It was so fun.

@antheabutler.bsky.social I was afraid I would never see this beauty again. I recall you and I exchanging Twitter messages all that sad afternoon. I’m so excited about the restoration. I was first here in 1986 and it looks better than it did then. So vibrant.

The one think I wanted to see here this trip was the Notre Dame restoration. I still remember that April 2019 afternoon. I was bored at the Master Gardener desk, check my Twitter and saw a report about a small fire reported on the roof. It was so horrific as it unfolded. The restoration is amazing

on our way to Notre Dame we passed the Hotel de Ville (Paris Town Hall) and they were preparing for the ceremony to honor the victims of the terrorist attack 10 years ago.

Paris was the perfect spot to end this fantastic holiday. We spent the AM leisurely strolling, the afternoon at Notre Dame and last evening celebrating Juan’s birthday in Montmartre with our friends who live here.

We are in Paris on the 10th anniversary of that horrible terrorist attack. There have been remembrances and programs all day in honor of the victims. We heard a most beautiful concert that was so touching. Tonight the Eiffel Tour is lit in the colors of the French Flag as a remembrance.

So much to see and so little time but enjoying that Basque food and wine was amazing
November 12, 2025 at 10:21 PM
We basically spent yesterday and today just walking and eating our way through this amazing city.
