Lifelong Minnesotan and long-time public policy & pop culture dork. Assorted thoughts and musings will occasionally be my own.

Hello friends and enemies.
This would've been Royce White if he hadn't been expelled
Who was in your high school graduating class, +/- two years, that would be of interest?

For example, I took a basketball class and graduated w/all-time 8th man Jud Buechler (look it up), and may have followed Stephanie Seymour (not sure if she still WENT to school after I moved there).

That people are taking an Anthony Horowitz quote seriously tells me how few people have read his book Magpie Murders, where he demonstrates the most boomer misunderstanding of how popular culture and the internet work
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:

“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

It's been a relatively quiet day for me, but I did learn this:

Agatha Christie learned to surf in 1922 - when she was 31 - and was one of the first western women to do so. Here she is with her wooden longboard, named FRED (I gotta assume).

I have written and deleted a lot of posts but I keep thinking about how the brutal assassination of Minnesota State senator Melissa Hortman, her husband Mark, and their beloved dog Gilbert in June did not prompt this same level of calls for empathy, sympathy, and flags at half-mast.

One of the most remarkable things of the last 9 months is how many Americans seem to believe the President is all powerful and Congress has no say.
Actually Congress has been ineffective by choice. It has immense power if it had the courage to use it.

I mean those are the correct answers
favorite opening credits sequence, go

mine is the one-two punch of the Edward Gorey “Masterpiece Mystery” illustrated animation followed by the 80s Art Deco stylings of “Poirot”
We used to have proper opening credits in this country

I know it’s all bad faith bs BUT I keep thinking about how the whole “reason” we apparently can’t pass any effective gun control legislation to prevent mass shootings is the idea that we need an armed populace in case the federal government decides to invade our cities and towns.

Like??????????
you'd think the governor of illinois basically going "we're being invaded by an authoritarian" would be something you'd see real easy on the front page of most everything an hour later

remember folks, we cant have gun restrictions because if we do the federal government will occupy our streets, imprison people without due process, ship dissidents to foreign gulags and things of that nature

Another shooting. This time in a Catholic school in Minneapolis.

It shouldn’t be normal to see 5th graders give TV interviews describing seeing their friends shot.

None of this is normal. This is not inevitable. This is a policy choice. Enough.

I’m gonna say armed troops from red states descending on a blue city is just a few inches — or maybe one exchange of gunfire — short of a civil war’s opening stages.
WASHINGTON (AP) — South Carolina, Ohio also sending National Guard troops to DC in further escalation of federal intervention in Dem city.

I once had a client a local prosecutor called a "career criminal."

Tbh, client had multiple arrests.

For stealing food.

Because otherwise they wouldn't eat at all.

Because they couldn't get a job because of previously being arrested for stealing food.

A society has the criminals it creates.
