Gotcha.

Not a dog person, me.

Though my sister's little shih tzu mix believes otherwise. (She rarely barks.)

In fact the best way to describe the law isn't that it bans algorithms, but coordination. Calling it algorithms is just more comprehensible to anybody not looking to score pedantry points.

At a Thanksgiving happy hour at work. This is one of the snacks on offer.

It's a charcuterie gourd!

OK, @davidhsiegel.bsky.social found the termination, see that thread...and then there's this from the Copyright Office:
www.copyright.gov/recordation/...

So, yeah, it's the exact carve-out you envisioned.

I ended up buying a bunch of little things. Dual business card holders, credit care folders, collapsible storage crates, and the cutest silicone spoon ever. Stuff like that.

Daiso is dangerous. But cheap. Most of what's in there is $2.25 unless marked otherwise.
November 16, 2025 at 1:47 AM
After, I headed to Daiso, the Japanese home goods store that puts every dollar store you've ever seen to shame.

The one in Flushing closed for good earlier this year, durn, but there's one in the East 50s in Manhattan, and that was roughly on my way home.

Eat your heart out, Container Store.

The cosplay was of course the bigger draw. The official "cosers" (I can't tell if that's supposed to be a better term, like a Trekkie/Trekker thing, or translation artifact) were good, of course. Some of the off-the-streets (especially several Futabas) were great too.
November 16, 2025 at 1:47 AM
The menu was entirely themed, of course. Curry rice, a multi-tiered burger, ramen...even pancakes (snerk). I got curry. The drinks...well, I wasn't about to have strawberry coffee, kale juice, or red bull and Coke, so hot cocoa it was.

The food wasn't Leblanc level, but it wasn't bad at all.
November 16, 2025 at 1:47 AM
The store itself, Dimension Poptown, bills itself as the first officially licensed theme cafe in New York. Admittedly, the whole experience was not nearly as...total as a comparable experience in Asia would be, but they tried.

I had some time to kill, so I swung by the nearby shops as well.
November 16, 2025 at 1:47 AM
Okay! Picture dump of the Persona 5 cafe and a bonus "I'm recreating a day in Japan anyway, why not go to a 100-yen store?"

First up, the travel. 7 wasn't running, so I took LIRR. The sign "To New York" is a bit incongruous; Flushing is in Queens...but you can almost believe otherwise, looking out.
November 16, 2025 at 1:47 AM
I'm feeling decadent.

Dear Fairway,

Have these always been here?
November 11, 2025 at 10:38 PM
Now heading to the airport. But this may be the most archetypal picture of London I've ever taken.

I guess the Seuss estate isn't as trigger-happy over here.
