Three opportunities for you to rally for public education on October 5 which is also World Teachers' Day. #stoptheexcuses #weareATA

Minister Horner says TEBA won’t return to the table until the LRB issue is resolved—delaying and frustrating bargaining. The ATA has tabled a proposal, teachers await a response. Call me a liar on TV if you want, but AB schools remain the least funded in Canada and that’s the truth.

Teachers will not be silenced or intimidated. We will keep fighting for safe classrooms, proper supports, and fair compensation. Alberta’s students deserve nothing less—and we will not stop until solutions are at the table. /5

The complaint objects to a simple truth: government has refused to give its negotiators the means to address class size, class complexity, student supports, and safe classrooms. That’s not a talking point. That’s the reality at the table. /2

Today the government chose legal maneuvers over negotiation. Instead of responding to the ATA’s latest proposal, it filed a Labour Relations complaint to delay and distract. Teachers are ready for a deal—government is not. /1

This underfunding is a choice. The result?
Overcrowded classrooms, fewer resources, and students left behind. Try the tool yourself, then ask your MLA why Alberta kids are worth less.

For example: the new school in Coaldale (which replaced Kate Andrews, where I taught for 17 years). With proper funding, that school would have:

11 more teachers at the national average

8 more with Saskatchewan’s funding

13 more with Manitoba’s

The government's book ban “pause” has become a game of Red Light, Green Light. Today: stop culling libraries. Tomorrow: start again? Teachers spent their summer pulling books to meet an arbitrary deadline. Our students deserve libraries filled with books, not political games.

Thank you to Calgary ATA Locals for the invite to walk with you at this year’s Pride Parade. More than ever, we must show our support and love for the 2SLGBTQAI+ community. Happy Pride everyone.

Strong public education is built on community support. We need to come together—parents, teachers, and citizens—to demand the resources and respect Alberta students deserve.

When classrooms are stretched beyond capacity, students don’t get the attention and support they need. Teachers are doing everything they can—but there’s only so much one person can do with 35+ students.

Every year, we’re told things will get better in Alberta’s classrooms or that we have adequate funding (we don't). But each new year, teachers face even greater challenges: overcrowded rooms, inadequate funding, and student needs going unmet. Our kids deserve better.

Beautiful day out at Writing in Stone Provincial Park with my ELAC colleagues as we learn about the Blackfoot culture and translate that into writing. Also shared how we can use what we learned today with our students.

We must strengthen ties with members, fight for better classroom conditions & wages, and resist government policies that undermine education—like expanded standardized testing & rushed teacher certifications. Our profession & students deserve better.

Alberta has the least-funded schools in Canada—a crisis affecting students, teachers, and administrators. We must stay forward-focused, improving working conditions and student learning. #schilling4president
