the factual claim that a "cancelled" person is in any meaningful sense cancelled is so consistently wrong that it's now supposed to actually raise your expectations of their future career

i would normally peg you at 60 off a post like this, but I'm going to knock off about twenty years because of your pfp and say you are late 30s early 40s. which makes you way too young to be posting this much like a boomer. "iPad generation turned off their brains"? come on

hard to think of a negative trend that doesn't seem to be coming to a head. the last many years have just consisted of collapses of structure after structure that offered real support and protection to people. it didn't even stop during the biden admin just slowed down a lot

i think they're catastrophic. i just don't think that thread is really picking out why or how

students now have an across the board inability to connect with others? im supposed to take that claim seriously?
November 29, 2025 at 4:49 PM
i am about as big an ai hater as you can find. but this is not about people valuing misinformation. it's actually hard to tell what it's about, because it's in the broad, floating terms of an archetypical moral panic argument
This is not a "students today" post--it's more "this is a new form of dysfunction" that doesn't look exactly like it's been in previous decades. It's more than just "first-year chaos." It's an across-the-board inability to process instructions, engage with longer texts, and *connect* with others.

what is more likely:

(1) human nature has fundamentally changed in the course of a few years because of text generators

(2) you are experiencing burnout, labor squeezing and getting old, in the middle of a nightmarish descent into fascism, and that's coloring your everyday experience
November 29, 2025 at 4:35 PM
the argument being made here is that students are fundamentally different people than they used to be because of LLMS and social media and that's not true. it just isn't

i got the sense listening to some of her back catalog that it was always destined to be such. her music is just soaked in fascism
I think as soon as you take "we appreciate power" to be unironic and from her POV it becomes indistinguishable from this
