I think I'll always be surprised (though I shouldn't be) at how an unexpected event can reveal the true colors of a person you thought you knew. I just had this happen with a neighbor for something far less personal than what you did, but it's still beyond disconcerting.

That is awful, Heather. The trauma, and the reliving of it via those kinds of reactions. I'm so sorry.

I'm so glad you posted this. I've been struggling to write lately as well. And all my newest poems I've been sending out there thinking they're ready, I'm excited about them, etc -- are not landing. Another layer of discouragement, but - I/we persist, right? Bc there's no other way...

Wow, congratulations!

So glad you shared these. I've had a weird year as well - in some ways extremely productive & proud of progress, but in others - well, few acceptances, but at least "some" growth in writing & new poems. It's hard for me to accept slow, & I sometimes don't/can't walk away when I should. So 💪, Mari!

Love this. I had a piece taken after 37 submissions to a journal (over 10 years!) & it was like immediately I became a member of the family. I had paid for a critique of a set of poems & they ended up taking one. At some point they said they'd always been pulling for me or some such. Meant so much!

But it's effortless to immediately think you've written a good one!
