At CNU, we have a new Virtual Reality Lab and today I had a meeting with the Associate Dean for seeing for the first time! My surprise was that on the screens he had ready an add about my Data String Art, so #DHMakes in a new space!

All the nodes are ready! This time, I decided to write the names before hammering the nails. Last time, I waited until after because I wasn’t sure if I’d need to change the base — but this time I wanted more space to write and make sure every name is clearly visible! #DHMakes

This week in #DHMakes: once all my crosses are marked where the nodes should be, I keep Gephi open on the table as a guide. Beneath each cross I start writing the names of the people who shape the network of the different versions of Las golondrinas. #NailandNodes

Once I have everything more or less figured out, I use a pencil to mark small crosses on the wood where the nodes are — this becomes my guide for later, when I start writing the names of the artists who participated in this network of the different versions of Las golondrinas. #DhMakes

After getting everything roughly in place, I start adjusting the projection while looking at the wood to make sure the network sits exactly where I want it. Then I play with the space, deciding whether to leave areas open for archival materials, photos, and other elements. #DHMakes

This week I started working again on my new #DHMakes piece! Since several people asked how I scale the design onto the wood, here’s a look at my setup — laptop and projector on one side of the room, the wood panel on the other, all ready to begin!

I went to the amazing @scholarslab.bsky.social and they have a lot of cool stuff like zines! I took my favorites with me and I have now a #DHMakes space in my office
October 16, 2025 at 2:20 PM
#DHMakes just in case you want to see the material closer. I’m using this side as the back, because it’s not in good shape and I will paint the other!
October 13, 2025 at 4:36 PM
Today at #NailsandNodes, I decided it would be best to start by putting some hangers on the back. Last time was the last time, and I didn't put them on at the end because they damaged the piece. #DHMakes
October 13, 2025 at 4:06 PM
After a while thinking, I decided I’m going to start the new #DHMakes piece. As I only have a smaller “wood” (still not sure exactly what is this), I would do a smaller SNA of different versions of Las Golondrinas, a zarzuela piece by Maria Lejárraga and the composer José María Usandizaga.

#DhMakes at the @scholarslab.bsky.social Academia without community is elitism!
September 25, 2025 at 10:09 PM
Moreover, I had the opportunity to remember that more than ever academia needs community and I made at the @scholarslab.bsky.social Without the support of the #DhMakes community, all the encouragement here, I couldn’t make it until the end of the piece

After my experience with #DHMakes, I decided to start something that I called “Crafty Quizzes” for my Spanish via Cinema class. I prepared a zines template with power point with 6 questions about the movie of the week. Before starting to answer, they needed to fold the paper and play around

#DHMakes Here the end of “String Data Art: The Social Network Analysis of Concurso de Cante Jondo (1922)” with two legend: one for the edges and another for the nodes. Hopefully a digital map of the piece would be ready for the exhibition at the @scholarslab.bsky.social

I wasn´t sure about what kind of legend I wanted to create for the #DHMakes, so I played around with nails. I wanted a bilingual legend that mantain the esence of crafting the whole piece. I reallized that it hasn´t to be perfect, so here it´s an imporfect legend
August 8, 2025 at 1:19 PM
#DHMakes Today I went to the Media Center at @cnucaptains.bsky.social for taking some photos and scan my piece! In this way, I can create a Storymap explaining all the different parts and the components!
August 6, 2025 at 4:22 PM
#DhMakes after it, time to thread the edges legend! This is the process that I usually follow which each color. Instead of tying a knot with each nail, I make a first knot and wrap the rest around it. When I finish all the color, I make the second knot and glue it. TBH, the wrapping always relax me

#DHMakes for the edges legend, I measure the wood and made two marks with a pencil. Here I’m picking the nails and use a ruler to guide me
August 5, 2025 at 9:37 PM
#DHMakes Now following my notes I’m going to create the physical legend in two smaller piece of wood. One for the edges and the other for the nodes + space for a QR code.

Thanks to the @scholarslab.bsky.social I got extra materials for these legends and the whole piece! Super grateful and excited
August 5, 2025 at 9:11 PM
#DHMakes After painting all the nodes, I place all the documentation and photos. I’m super happy to see it kind of finished
August 5, 2025 at 5:53 PM
#DHMakes colors finished!
July 28, 2025 at 3:08 PM
#DhMakes once I made my decision, I start the painting with my computer on the side, so I can check the nodes in Gephi.
July 27, 2025 at 5:51 PM
Before starting to paint, sometimes I like to do a small legend on my notebook. In this way, I can organize and compare the colors with the threads. #DHMakes
July 27, 2025 at 4:27 PM
Today for the #DHMAkes it’s time to pick the colors for the nails. In this case, I decided to use the colors I associated with the role of each individual in the Concurso de Cante Jondo (1922)‘a Network.

After finishing with the moving, I went to see the sunset. I’m still processing this place is just 15 minutes from my new place
