Labour MP for Luton North | Chair of @commonswec.parliament.uk | CoChair of @LFPME.bsky.social | Promoted by and on behalf of Sarah Owen at 3 Union Street, Luton, LU1 3AN.
🎶 What a lovely musical way to end this week's @commonswec.parliament.uk session with incredible women - talking about how we get positive, accurate & useful women's health messaging reaching young people and improve young women's healthcare in the UK.

What a privilege it was to speak last night with young leaders from across the UK, all of whom care passionately about human rights and want to see lasting peace in Palestine.

Thank you to the Palestinian Ambassador, @medicalaidpal.bsky.social, and everyone who travelled for this special event.

It's International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

@commonswec.parliament.uk has led inquiries on BSL, health conditions & chronic illness, equality at work and the rights of older people, and will keep working in this area.

We need to ensure that opportunity and services are inclusive for all.

The Angliolini report on the heartbreaking murder of Sarah Everard is concerning reading for anyone wanting to restore trust in policing, and fight violence against women and girls.

I asked the Minister what the Govt can learn from the report to deliver on our target of halving #VAWG

Yet he seems to have forgiven and is working with the Tories that jumped ship.

Farage forgets that his own team are mostly a bunch of Tory has beens…

Danny Kruger, Nadine Dorries, Jonathan Gullis, Pochin, Berry, Anderson could surely answer for the lies he accuses them of?

Today is World Aids Day.

@commonswec.parliament.uk recently found there was a concerning rise in HIV diagnosis rates among women, and services are stretched. Eradicating HIV by 2030 will require a specialised action plan, and the Committee will continue to push for action in this area.

I know who Nus Ghani MP is - not because we always agree - but because she’s been serving her constituency (as well as lewks) since 2015.

Who the hell is Lucy White?!

Ah, a quick google search reveals her as a rentagob for GB ‘news.’

I know which one is qualified to chair the budget debate.

Some more good things from the budget:

- online gambling tax
- £millions for kids’ playparks
- funding for SMEs to provide apprenticeships
- infected blood scandal payments exempt from inheritance tax
- lowest business rates since 1991 for 750,000 retail, hospitality & leisure businesses.

450,000 children out of poverty.

That's the difference made by a Labour government.

Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance - a day to remember members of the trans community who have died or been killed because of who they are.

Trans people in the UK are feeling uncertainty & fear. We must stand up for trans people & their right to live free from prejudice & hate.

Cruelty does nothing to secure our borders.

It's good that the Home Secretary has definitively ruled out confiscating jewellery from refugees - but our focus must now be on building a fair asylum system that prioritises safe and legal routes, not more Tory-style ineffective cruelty.

🔉What dangers does X pose to our democracy? And should the government stop using it?

Good to hear yesterday from @sundersays.bsky.social and @petergeoghegan.bsky.social on the immense risk of X as it ignores legal obligations and its owner tries to influence UK politics.

A strong and impartial BBC is one of our country's greatest assets.

While mistakes have been made, it is always worth protecting the principle of a BBC free from political interference.

Survivors of sexual abuse and rape are waiting too long for justice. The previous govt let our justice system fall apart. Though we have seen improvements, there must be more support for survivors.

The govt must continue to work to shorten wait times and act for victims of these horrific crimes.

Today, we honour the memory of all who gave their lives in service to our country, and extend heartfelt thanks to the courageous personnel who continue to serve.

Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Did you know that from 15th October to 10th November, and at other festive periods, traders without license - like supermarkets - can sell fireworks? 💥

Fireworks are dangerous explosives, they should not be marketed like toys in the same spot as the sweets and crisps.

Millionaire argues for millionaires to pay less tax in the UK. 💰

Who does he work for?

Farage is not the voice of ordinary working people.

Hundreds of civilians were reportedly massacred at a maternity hospital in Sudan yesterday.

The RSF attacks civilians and uses sexual violence as a weapon of war.

The UK must do all it can to alleviate this humanitarian disaster, and ensure no UK arms are used in this horrific civil war.

Women are 51% of the country, but are often ignored and patronised when seeking medical help. The govt must deliver a women's health strategy that addresses this - helping the economy & allowing women to get on with their lives.

Good to join the @newstatesman1913.bsky.social health conf this week.

The Renter's Rights Bill is now law - meaning from early next year, renters in Luton North will have the protections Labour promised at the election. 🏠

This govt believes everyone has the right to live in a safe home, protected from exploitation and malpractice. This new Act delivers on that.

As part of our #WEC inquiry into the beauty industry, we heard from experts about the difficulties in regulation.

Women are being preyed on through social media and sold dodgy, dangerous services by unqualified treatment providers.

We will do all we can to hold the tech companies to account.
October 24, 2025 at 7:53 PM
The govt is providing a further £10m to protect mosques and faith centres.

It is welcome - but desperately sad as British Muslims have faced increasing violence and intimidation.

Islamophobia must be robustly challenged, and we need a standard definition of anti-Muslim racism.

Access to British Sign Language teaching is vital not just for children growing up with hearing loss, but also for their parents.

I’m grateful to be offered a meeting with the Schools Minister to discuss more.

Thanks also to the @bda.org.uk for supporting me with my signing!🧏🏻‍♀️

Wishing a very Happy Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas to all those celebrating!

As our Hindu, Sikh and Jain communities celebrate the victory of light over darkness, and good over evil, I'm grateful for all the light and goodness they contribute in Luton North 🎆

Spooky season is nearly here so it’s time for a scary Small Business Saturday! 🎃

Don’t forget to check out the charity shops like Keech Hospice, Sue Ryder or community shops like this one in Bushmead for Halloween costumes - it’s cheaper, better for the planet 🌍 and supports great work locally.
