What would you do if your 2SLS estimates are much larger than OLS, but you still have confidence in the instrument? Any tools or techniques to further probe what's going on?

For anyone who would like to "try" a session, I will be opening up some slots in January. Disclaimer: I do not hold one of the "Big 3" certifications (because they cost thousands, take years to complete if you work, and no longer guarantee clients), but I do have £1M professional insurance.
Have just had a really really great coaching session (paid for through work). Some proper 'a-ha' moments. If you've been thinking about getting coaching but not got round to it yet, this is your prompt to actually go do it!

Idle thought. Could we fix the council tax revaluation problem by having a “revalue upon sale”approach? Because visibly we are not gonna exit from “property tax values that are older than the Czech Republic” by going through it to *existing* homeowners.

What, exactly, is the point of the "Keep me signed in" tick box? Does it actually work, on any site?

Whoever came up with the idea of charging foreigners a $100 surcharge to enter the big national parks has obviously never visited a national park.

- It will discourage foreign visitors (and their money)
- It will mean miserably long wait times for everyone as park entry attendants check passports
Department of the Interior Announces Modernized, More Affordable National Park Access  | U.S. Department of the Interior
The Department of the Interior today announced the most significant modernization of national park access in decades, delivering new digital America the Beautiful passes, updated annual pass artwork, ...

An editor's single wish... decline any request but please do so promptly
Recently did around 30 requests to ppl who'd published very similar papers to the one I needed reviews for. 3 declines, 25 no response. Please at least decline guys it slows stuff down so much otherwise.
I'm still relatively new to this journal associate editor business, but it already sucks… I've had a paper on my desk for more than a month now:

Reviewers invited: 12
Of those…
Declined: 5
No response: 7

Any university programming intended to address the massive faculty mental health crisis that does not include investments to remove organizational stressors is bullshit. Faculty are not weak, they’re underwater for structural reasons ffs.

Discourse surrounding “AI” these days often feels like a guy showing you his shovel and you say, “that’s a nice shovel” and he says “I am going to perform surgery on my mother with this shovel” and you say “Oh God please don’t that is not what a shovel is for.”

Worth noting:
• Upward revision applies to entire 2021-2024 series — the *trend* in emigration is *roughly* flat
• As infuriating as big revisions are, they mean data is getting better
• BUT wild that we ever used a survey to gauge movements into and out of the country instead of counting people!

Steps 1 & 2 are really terrific. Step 3 is a bit more controversial / potentially damaging, but if you get the first two right, you can explore.

It's a useful reminder that sometimes tech can make a task more efficient for one side (applying for jobs), and more efficient for the other side (writing job adverts), and yet make the system as a whole completely inefficient.

I have made clear this sends a terrible signal about what they consider the 'future of the UK research system' to be and I'd not attend such an event.

Expecting them to scramble for a token female speaker by the time of the event next week now that I've raised this with them
