Introducing my new comic book font, Girl Kisser 🧡🤍💖

It's all-caps, really pretty, super soft, and comes with a wide range of glyphs. It's hand-drawn with a micron pen and hand-traced into vectors, and it's perfect for comic book dialogue.

You can find it over here: ko-fi.com/s/b1e9cc34d4
tired: “wow, there’s a lot of people using this accessible accommodation. people must be faking it.”

wired: 1 in 5 americans is disabled, and our entire society is maximized for the comfort of able-bodied consumers. institutions consistently do as little as legally possible for disabled people

Comics writers and artists — please request your favorite colorists and letterers when working on a new project with a publisher. Can’t hurt to ask. (And if you don’t really care who letters/colors your work…that’s disappointing on a lot of levels.)

the bold and italic keyboard shortcuts in indesign 2025 only work with some fonts and not others. i feel totally normal about how much this software costs

Here's the good news: though the workers 'making' these AI locs can't do much to stop them, WE, THE CONSUMERS, CAN.

Email them. Cancel your subscription. Call them and complain.
Be a Karen. Tell them they have lost your dollar.

Workers secretly want this. They want consumers to riot.

Let me give some insight on this, as a producer in the dub industry who worked with major streamers, who's witnessed first-hand where this push for AI is coming from.

tl;dr: Only CEOs want this. Tell them how much you hate it. Be loud, email, call, @, post. You will kill this.

🧵⬇️
The only thing less human than these AI dub performances is the decision to sign off on them

A company this big can pay human actors a decent wage, not produce slop that intentionally removes the human element.

If you saw the sandstorm scene in Lazarus: Fallen #6 and are not sure how I created the balloon effects, I wrote out a tutorial for @rogue151.bsky.social in the thread below. Don't click if you don't want to know how I pull a rabbit out of a hat -- it's not that exciting once you see the technique.
Random comics thing that makes me happy: I’m rereading last week’s Lazarus and I love what I’m guessing @airy.bsky.social did with the speech bubbles here. It conveys in such a fun what the characters trying to talk and it getting jumbled in a sandstorm.

Federal immigration enforcement officials called off a planned raid on Canal Street today shortly before it was slated to begin.

New Yorkers who heard about the raid showed up at the garage where the feds had gathered, and as federal agents tried to leave, the NYPD cleared the way for them.

some friends and I started a tradition of eating fried chicken on thanksgiving, and this year I hosted so I thought I’d try deep frying for the first time. it was so scary, but I’m proud of myself for doing it anyway!
I don’t even eat meat, but friends said it was really good 🥹

one part about making free comics fonts that i didn't anticipate is that publishers' legal teams often make the art/ed department buy a "license"
it's not necessary, but thank u for supporting my little gay font factory

Cover Debut! - Immortality and Punishment, Vol. 1

A young man with a heavy secret finds himself trapped in a love hotel. As he falls into despair, chaos erupts on the streets as grotesque figures begin to appear all around the city.

A lot of indie bookstores will buy 1–3 copies of a book, especially graphic novels as a test to see how they sell. If they sell even 1–3 copies, it opens the door not just for a reorder of that book, but for more books in that format in general.
I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

For graphic novels, especially adult genre fiction, it's incredibly helpful to review it online, talk about it, recommend it to a friend—adult fiction in the graphic novel space is difficult to place, and nothing convinces readers that they'll like a book more than the personal testimonial.
If you like an author's work, the best thing you can do is buy it. The second best thing you can do is ask your local library to buy it. Or, do both!
A reminder that the median book deal for a debut author in the UK is £7000, paid over 12-18 months. (from 2022 Society of Authors report). Some of your favourite writers are struggling. societyofauthors.org/2022/12/06/a....

this point really hits the nail on the head of why localization workers are so frustrated by “AI” loc companies.
freelancers have to beg for a single dollar wage increase, while tens of millions are dumped into a machine designed to replace them.
the machine doesn’t even work. freelancers do.
one of the things that makes me most mad about genAI (and there are many) is we've been told there's not enough money for hiring. but there's billions poured into ai.

so not enough money to hire workers. but infinite money to pour into technology whose goal is never having to pay workers again.
