In www.elvisstudy.com, a pilot RCT, there was a 2 day reduction in duration of illness, 36% reduction in over the counter medication use, 35% reduction in transmission within households. Individuals in the intervention arm had a higher rate of fall in viral shedding www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Next we tested if we could treat the common cold (caused by many viruses) by supplying chloride ions to affected cells using salty water. We asked some participants to perform nasal irrigation and gargling with hypertonic saline they were taught to make. Others were controls (www.elvisstudy.com)

There are 4 "common cold coronaviruses" OC43, 229E, HKU1 and NL63. They are the second commonest cause of infection after rhinoviruses. Usually mild, but can be a bad infection in some. There are no vaccines against these 4. But nasal irrigation and gargling works. Check www.elvisstudy.com
