For 50 years the orthodoxy has been that the majority of investment has to be private investment. Well, private investment has let this country down- and most of the rest of the world. It’s time to raise sufficient taxation from private wealth to prevent runaway inflation while building publicly

Railway building and new homes and renewable energy projects and home insulation programmes all employ large numbers of people in this country who don’t necessarily need degrees or IT skills. A society that relies on management consulting and AI and insurance is failing to engage with the majority

It IS important to be realistic. Competent and compassionate government would definitely help, but it wouldn’t guarantee a general election victory. Remember, after the biggest council house building project ever, inventing the NHS and implementing the welfare state, Labour was voted out in 1951
