This had staggering consequences over the next century. In the US, German immigrants comprised about 25% of the Union Army and were instrumental in destroying the Confederacy.

The largest ethnic group in America is still German because so many people fled after the failed 1848 Revolution. All the liberals who supported the overthrow of monarchical systems left either to achieve their dreams elsewhere or flee conservative retribution.

He is the de facto party leader. He has screwed up so many times over the past year (not to mention 10) that he should have resigned a long time ago.
