the symbolism of “Trump destroying the White House for a overpriced luxury vanity project, during a government shut down, days after a historically-large mass demonstration against his regime called “No Kings”’ would be rightly viewed as laying it on a little thick if it was in a work of fiction

god i'm just so fucking tired
They literally demolished part
of the White House to build Trump’s
$250 million ballroom. I’m not even
shocked. Just tired. And heartbroken.
How did we get here?

💉🧵RKFJ’s HHS has reestablished a childhood vaccine safety task force. Review of vaccine safety is a good and necessary thing.

But that is not what RFKJ is doing. He will use this task force to restrict or remove access to childhood vaccines.

it's the coldest summer of the rest of our lives, probably
When even your early morning walk reminds you that you live now on a planet that will likely keep burning for the rest of your life. When you realize babies born in your community today likely will not know the deep blue summer sky of your own childhood.

What was done to 60 Minutes was terrible. Period. The people concerned about what happened to Colbert know the history of authoritarianism & that authoritarians target comedians & entertainers bc they tell the truth about the state unbridled by journalistic norms. Colbert is a truth-teller.
This is absolutely, astonishingly wrong & uninformed. It is precisely because of Colbert’s role as a comedian that he could be one of the main truth tellers in American society for the past decade.
The story at Paramount-CBS isn't Colbert.

It's 60 Minutes.

If you're valorizing comedians and entertainers for their truth-telling more than journalists, you're part of the problem.

All the entertainment could vanish tomorrow and we'd survive. Not so much, if reporting did.

CBS removing anti Trump comedian Stephen Colbert from the air under pressure from Trump is an extremely serious matter.
This is a direct attack on freedom of the press by the president of the USA.
This cannot be allowed to pass.

the people who fund expensive streaming only star trek shows want you to believe they canceled colbert, the highest rated network talk show, because of costs and not because he made the president mad on a regular basis.

they think you are fucking stupid.

Even against all of Trump's cascading attacks over the past seven months, it had seemed that up until now, our culture at large—the literal shows, movies, art, music, literature we consume—seemed somewhat siloed from Trump's fury.

But the end of Colbert marks a dark new stage.
