This is a snapshot of an area in the Boola Boola State Forest on #gunaikurnaicountry that FFMV has on the list to burn in 2025. An area of damp, wet forest along a creek with abundant biodiversity. How is this even allowed?

Always lovely to see the first Nodding Greenhood Orchids for the season. 🙂 Victoria Australia. #Gunaikurnai country

Saturday's full moon was an ideal night to look for Greater Gliders in the Boola Boola State Forest with members of #KinglakeFriendsoftheForest. We spotted 4 gliders. 😀 These gliders and other arboreal creatures are at risk of #FFMVs planned burning regime. #gunaikurnaicountry

DEECA Gippsland has been logging Strategic Fuel Breaks in threatened Box Ironbark and Coast Grey Gum Forest. Crushing areas with high abundance of native orchids for firewood. Habitat for Arboreal Fauna being burned at the expense of our ever shrinking biodiversity.

Ominous skies over Latrobe Valley today. Hoping for more rain to stave off the FFMV planned burns.

Great to see the male Golden Whistler in its distinctive golden plumage, and hear its melodious song. Boola Boola @Gunaikurnaicountry

🔥🔥🔥Avon - Mount Hedrick Natural Features and Scenic Reserve - 1515 ha 'Fuel Production' burn scheduled for the next 10 days. This beautiful rocky escarpment with the most amazing wildflowers will be torched by #FFMV. Photos are from an excursion in Spring 2021. #gunaikurnaicountry

Another victim of #FFMV. Calling a harmless large old tree a 'hazard', and chopping it down, in an area they plan to burn. Boola Boola State Forest. #gunaikurnaicountry

🔥Fire regimes that cause declines in biodiversity can be a threatening process under the EPBC Act, yet DEECA seem to be able to get away with burning high biodiversity habitat. It's no wonder that our weak environmental laws are causing extinction. 🐨

Anti-nuclear rally in Traralgon, Victoria. Speakers included Electra Green who sent a strong message that the Latrobe Valley wants ageing power stations replaced with clean energy and not nuclear.

🔥Every year thousands of hectares of forest biodiversity are incinerated in the name of public safety but research shows that this isn't the case. Long unburnt forests are less prone to fire and contain many fire resistant plants. Fire management needs to pause and review. Spread the message. 🌿🐨

"Mature forest habitat mitigates the decline of an endangered greater glider population through a widespread disturbance event. Protecting mature habitat helps greater gliders persist through disturbance events."

"High fire severity and frequency threaten the persistence of a widespread obligate-seeder Banksia cunninghamii. More frequent and severe wildfires mean that burn planning needs to consider the reproductive cycles of serotinous obligate-seeding plants."

A Lace monitor watches its dinner disappear as the ringtail possum escapes down a nearby tree. Shows the importance of hollows in the ecosystem, and it's very annoying to see local land owners chopping down old paddock trees in Tyers at the moment when they are homes for numerous animals.
