Hi there - I’d love if you would consider my portfolio at ryancecilsmith.com. I’ve been a full time BG designer for animation for 10 years (in addition to cartooning, making comics).

That’s interesting to hear in hindsight. We read that it wasn’t advised but didn’t know what to make of it. Yeah I’m glad she could work in her country the whole time.

Yes I think clearer guidance would be appreciated - this kind of enforcement sort of ruins a couples life?! Like life goes on but - this is a fucked up thing to enforce in the cruelest way with the worst consequences in the last minute before securing a green card

Yeah I think we’re on the same page. So that’s why my wife stayed out of the country for our visa application - we got married and then learned “oh you should have just gotten engaged and a finance visa if she wanted to apply from within the US.”

Yeah that seems right to me too. But we applied while we were outside the US so I don’t think we had something like that in our case. These arrests definitely seem wrong!

Lol it’s all good Bryce. I’m not spending much energy evangelizing him… I wrote about the interview on my blog once, here: blog.screentone.tv/post/8864991...
I think it helps if you hear the audio, but the links are dead now unfortunately!

I am 100% with Brian here. But also I‘m definitely NOT a fan of Todd’s and I’m not into any of those kinds of comics. I just loved how he stood up for himself in that interview! His principles were admirable.

LOL I love McFarlane in this interview! I was never a McFarlane fan growing up, but when I read this interview years later I thought he was the more grounded one.

I wasn't really clear on what the ostensible violation was. Is it that the process took longer than they were originally approved to be in the country for (e.g. a one year visa and the green card application took 13 months), and so when it was done, the agents just kidnapped them at the interview?!
