Beautiful historical slice of life movie! Loved how it captures the solipsism of early childhood, and how that slowly falls away as we learn to understand the people around us. The English dub I saw is entirely great. It was preceded by a lovely short, Éiru by Cartoon Saloon who can do no wrong.

Predator: Badlands RULES. A grandpa w his grandson kept yelling HELL YEAH throughout the movie. So much inventive action w great characters (Thia is the cutest synthetic in all of Weyland-Yutani.) And really not at all a bad film to take older kids to! And rad character animation, esp the yautjas.

Maybe my favorite excerpt, from chapter 2. Probably where I’m at in life right now that this thought is so moving to me. When viewed from a higher dimensional plane, everything is fine.
The most important thing I learned on Tralfamadore was that when a person dies he only appears to die. He is still very much alive in the past, so it is very silly for people to cry at his funeral. All moments, past, present and future, always have existed, always will exist. The Tralfamadorians can look at all the different moments just that way we can look at a stretch of the Rocky Mountains, for instance. They can see how permanent all the moments are, and they can look at any moment that interests them. It is just an illusion we have here on Earth that one moment follows another one, like beads on a string, and that once a moment is gone it is gone forever.

Had a delightful Halloween binging Stephen King movie adaptations with pals (Dreamcatcher, Carrie, Creepshow, Graveyard Shift, Christine) and drinking Vampire Blood cocktails. My costume this year was the woman from The Green Ribbon.
The last lines from The Green Ribbon by Alvin Schwartz "Alfred," she said, "now I can tell you about the green ribbon. Untie it, and you will see why I could not tell you before." Slowly and carefully, Alfred untied the ribbon, and Jenny's head fell off. There is an illustration of a woman’s body lying in bed, a green ribbon lying across her emaciated hand. Fantastic essay. Maybe my favorite part, and a great rallying cry:
The way out of our present age of political violence is not scolding "we have to live here with one another," at those who are not threatening anyone's life, at those whose very existence supremacists refuse to accept. Rather the way out is standing between supremacists and their targets and telling them "no, you have to live with them, just like we live with you, and if you can't do that, then you have a problem with us, too." It's turning to those who just aren't comfortable with trans people and saying "we don't negotiate about people's rights over here, and if you want to see how hard we'll fight for you against the billionaires and bosses who are robbing you blind, watch how hard we fight for them. If hating trans people is so important to you that you're willing to get robbed to death to secure it, we aren't the party for you."

Chainsaw Man movie was gorgeous! I didnt know the lore since Ive not read the manga nor watched the anime but I was still invested in the romance/action. The resolution was a bit clunky but oh well, still loads of the finest animation Ive seen with a spectacular soundtrack. Guess I should watch on!

I am now The-Answer-to-the-Ultimate-Question-of-Life-the-Universe-and-Everything-years old.

Hopefully that means I’ll figure some things out this year. But in the meantime I’m grateful for all the friends and family who have shown me they care! I am blessed!
