Also in exciting news: I've published my little blueprint exceptions plugin on the Fab store. It lets you raise blueprint exceptions from Blueprints and CPP using Assert and Verify behaviors. With support for auto-breakpointing on errors and custom diagnostic messages

Just want you to know that when I asked Geoff why he gave the silent treatment to an open letter written by his own "future of games" program (& co-signed by 3000+ industry peers), he replied:

"Because that's my show and nobody gets to tell me how I should use my platform". 💀💀💀
Yeah, I think diffused 3500k is what I have for painting minis. Also for behind the camera on video calls. Generally an unpleasant vibe, but useful
Took me so long to get around to properly exploring them, which was a huge mistake.
Finally for reference

2700k is roughly the warmth of a standard incandescent. Lower is warmer/softer, good for low level cosy lamps. Higher is cooler /harsher, good for work areas

800 lumens is roughly a 60W incandescent light bulb, but an LED build will consume much less power
Finally work lights, at 3000k+ (cool white) for under the kitchen cabinets and at my desk for painting miniatures. Very bright and somewhat harsh but also diffused and don't cast shadows so great for working with my aging eyes
That's for ceiling lights. All very high lumen (1000ish) because dimmable

Big caveat is you need LED dimmers and those will require you to run the earth wire down to the wall switch

Then i have a shit load of lamps at 2200k (very warm), between 80-150 lumens, that are what I use in the evenings
A few years ago, I overhauled all my lighting and the MVP is Phillips WarmGlow. It's a dimmable LED bulb (numerous socket types), that gets warmer as it dims. 2700k at max brightness and 2200k at min. Has incredible range as well so you can dim it right down to a barely visble cosy ambiance
Mental exhaustion

40 years of buying lightbulbs… what wattage? 10 years of look at all these new plug types and now?

This lightbulb can play happy birthday on your birthday. This one has Wi-Fi. This one changes tones based on your mood… this one?

I am not smart enough to know what glow I want

in a long life filled with saying stupid shit this is may be the stupidest shit he's ever said
Noooop. She's chilled out a bit today, but still not happy
Tiny kitten staying with me right now. He's very sweet but Loppan has opinions

If you've been tagging all your reference posts, then it should be possible to set up a custom feed that is "posts by me, tagged #reference", that you can pin to your profile and people can follow

I've not used it, but a service like blueskyfeedcreator.com should make that pretty easy to set up
Ok, so jokes aside, this is a great adaption of the story and also manages to land with such a sense of beauty and emotional payoff that GDT excels at

Might not push out Sinners for my favourite of this year, but it's very close
I'm just over halfway through Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein and I dunno you guys, I'm starting to wonder if maybe this creature isn't a monster at all 🤔
Elon has been desperately trying to calibrate Grok towards more right-wing content for ages and now it's asking children for nudes

Is this not just a statistical proof of pedocon theory?
Today's entry in "why your chatbot, particularly that one, should not be in general deployment"

"My car asked my kids a shocking and inappropriate question. That’s how I realized there are few safe spaces anymore" in the Toronto Star [gift link]

1930 on that graph like "nothing to see here!"
I very rarely acknowledge that part of my life, and it's been decades since I've had those impulses, I'm ok

But reading this terrifies me for vulnerable youth and it is sickening that we're being constantly pushed a technology who's purpose is "harm at scale" as the future of everything
I spent several years as a teenager dealing with suicidal ideation *every single day*. I have scars from cutting myself with razor blades as a release valve for those feelings

If ChatGPT was available to me at that time I probably wouldn't be here today

This shit is abhorrent

The fact that 30% of our stock market is wrapped up in “help-kids-kill-themselves” technology seems to be an important datapoint in the evolution of late stage capitalism.
Are you just passing the controller around when characters change? That's what we did when we played it, each new pov character got assigned to one of us, and we role played their character choices

Also can video game journalists, please, please stop framing QA as a 'gateway' into the industry or a way for people to get their foot in the door so they can go into 'more creative' disciplines? QA is its own specialized field which requires very capable and specialized professionals.

Game publisher execs are about two more fads away from putting all their faith in literal magic beans.

They went all-in on services, all-in on NFTs, all-in on AI. Every time they’re convinced they’ve invested in a divine cure-all.

They believe in magic the way a child might. Except kids learn.
After all these years I'm still haunted by

"Class A (Legal) : "PS" and "Vita" must not be separated by line breaks [MUSTFIX]"

(we did not have support for non-breaking spaces in our game 😰)
The time management mechanic in the Séance of Blake Manor is both very neat and also very stressful. I have absolutely no idea how much time I can afford to spend on anything and it's really good
