Good PA from Cags until that last pitch. Couldn’t lay off a 92 MPH fastball that was ball four.

This is a great way of putting it from Matt Quatraro. Having a good approach is in part understanding how pitchers want to get you out.

And I love that he refers to “perceived” struggles rather than “struggles” bc it indicates that Cags was letting the results get to him.

Rough way to lose game 1. Here’s the game 2 lineup. Nice to see them showing confidence in Jac facing a tough lefty. He’ll need to show more patience than he has so far.

Let’s take the series!

I just wrote a piece on Nick Loftin for the Substack ($). It attempts to understand if his new found line drive rate (so important to his success) is more or less likely to be a consistent thing for him.

One of my favorite I've ever written. Check it out!

The good news: Salvy has essentially been unlucky.
The bad news: Vinnie and Massey have just been bad.

I've been thinking about this all day. And, honestly, I think the Royals have three options here:

John Rave
Nick Loftin
Cam Devanney

Of the three, here's my preference: 1. Loftin 2. Devanney 3. Rave

Both Devanney and Rave would need a 40-man spot (not a huge deal there's one open).

This week's Weekly Wrap Up is posted for #Royals Weekly Substack subscribers! I dig deep into each of the first two games focusing on things like Bobby Witt Jr.'s approach, Maikel Garcia pulling the ball in the air, and that bonkers base running play from #OpeningDay.

Looks like Carlos Hernandez will be the odd man out in the bullpen race.

I’m not sure I love picking Stratton over him, but Stratton makes a lot more money and teams care about that.
